INTERIM MANAGING DIRECTOR

interim leadership during periods of transition

Zoltán Hajdu, interim managing director and experienced business executive

What is interim management?

As an interim managing director, I temporarily take over the operational leadership of the company, ensure business continuity, and professionally lead the organisation through the planned changes.

I begin by assessing the current situation. Together with the owners, we define clear objectives, after which I implement a measurable, time-bound action plan.

My approach

"When it comes to achieving our most important goals, we cannot allow our own weaknesses to stand in our way."

Top performers in business and elite sport experience similar pressures, and many of the same principles apply when it comes to overcoming challenges.

Through my individual work with top water polo players and six years working with the Hungarian national football team, I saw first-hand how decisive player commitment is and what a genuine high-performance culture looks like at the highest level. I also saw how these same mental tools can be directly applied to executive and organisational performance in business.

What I bring to the table

25+ years of multinational leadership experience.

Commercial leadership background and extensive insight into executive selection.

Experience preparing national-level athletes for peak performance.

Harvard Business School licensed "Immunity to Change" methodology.

The goal I share with my clients is always the same: to approach or outperform the highest-performing organisations in their industry.

Why is this different?

There are excellent coaches who also draw on sport. Experienced interim executives focus on the numbers. And some strong executive recruiters can find the missing leader.

What is far less common is an interim executive who can enter a company facing transformation or approaching crisis and, after a thorough assessment, determine who needs to be replaced, who should be retained, and how to re-energise a demoralised team using methods adapted from elite sport.

WHEN SHOULD YOU APPOINT AN INTERIM MANAGING DIRECTOR?

1

When there is an unexpected or temporary leadership gap

A sudden departure, illness, or role change while the search for a permanent managing director is still underway.

During succession, ownership change, restructuring or rapid growth

2

When decisive but flexible leadership is needed, while the family or board is not yet ready to commit to a permanent solution.

3

When leading a critical strategic project

Entering a new market, launching a new product, organisational restructuring, or post-acquisition integration - particularly when internal capacity is limited or an external, impartial perspective is required

During a crisis or period of instability

When fast decisions and experienced leadership are needed to stabilise the company.

4

What you get from the cooperation

Together, we develop a clear, measurable strategy and action plan for 2027-2030.
